It features a distinguished active researcher or clinician whose work advances our understanding of MS progression, neurodegeneration, and the biology of repair in the field of clinical or translational neuroimmunology. Lecture Overview Recent advancements in stem cell biology offer promising potential for treating central nervous system diseases, particularly progressive multiple sclerosis (MS). Neural stem/precursor cells (NSCs) have the ability to replace damaged cells and improve intercellular communication, which can enhance immune responses and promote healing. Studies in experimental models have uncovered mechanisms through which transplanted NSCs help combat chronic inflammation in the central nervous system, which have paved the way for innovative therapeutic strategies and are currently undergoing clinical trials.
