- 11:30 AM2h 30mEncounters - Destigmatizing Intimate Partner ViolenceDomestic Violence is a pervading issue across our world. During the fiscal year of 2021, over 38,989 people sought domestic violence services in our state of Connecticut alone. This number is not reflective of all those who endure domestic violence, as violence often goes unreported. We need to shatter the silence. Through education, engagement, and empowerment, this program will shed light on domestic violence and create social change. Join us as we learn, listen, and reflect through small group discussions with facilitators, and engage with experts in domestic violence services about this critical issue. This event is hosted by theDemocracy & Dialogues Initiative (https://humanrights.uconn.edu/areas-of-focus/democracy-dialogues/), a program of Dodd Human Rights Impact, The Alyssiah Wiley Program, UConn's Women Center (https://womenscenter.uconn.edu/), and UConn Hartford (https://hartford.uconn.edu/).A light lunch will be provided at 11:30am.

- 5:30 PM1hMath Club: Commuting polynomials, by Georgia Harbor-Collins (UConn)Composition of functions usually depends on the order in which it is done: $f(g(x))$ usually is not \(g(f(x))\). Sometimes, however, \(f(g(x)) = g(f(x))\) for all \(x\). We then say \(f(x)\) and \(g(x)\) commute. In this talk, we will see how polynomials can satisfy \(f(g(x)) = g(f(x))\). It turns out that there are only two interesting ways this can happen, and one way has an unexpected relationship to trigonometry.Note: Free refreshments. The talk starts at 5:40.

- 7:30 PM1hThe Moors, by Jen SilvermanIt's 1840(-ish). Two spinster sisters, a maid (or is it two maids?) and a melancholy mastiff live out their lives on the bleak English moors, dreaming of love and power. The arrival of a fresh-faced governess (through the door) and a moor-hen (out of the sky) sets them on a strange, dangerous path. Part Brontë satire, part Gothic thriller, part feminist rock musical, The Moors is a wholly delicious anachronistic comedy about desperation, love, and our desire to be seen for who we truly are. Directed by Kristen Palmer. "Gorgeously dark, chillingly funny, and a real treat for any Brontë fans. — West End Best Friend
