- 10:30 AM1hMind & Body: Support and empowerment for students with chronic health conditionsMIND AND BODY:SUPPORT AND EMPOWERMENT FOR STUDENTS WITH CHRONIC HEALTH CONDITIONS. This weekly group is for students adjusting to coping with chronic health conditions in a university setting. This is a safe space for students to share their experiences and support each other in managing their health while also managing the challenges of college life. This group is a joint effort between medical and mental health services to ensure that students are cared for in a complete and holistic manner.' This session is held by Jennifer Fox, PhD (https://studenthealth.uconn.edu/person/jennifer-fox/) & Ryan Grade BSN, RN (https://studenthealth.uconn.edu/person/ryan-grade/) For many concerns that students face- like overwhelming stress, anxiety, difficult relationships, depression, academic difficulties, and more – group therapy is the best option for support and healing. Facilitated by SHaW counselors, our therapy groups encourage peer support, promote emotional wellbeing, and increase a felt sense of connection. Participants often find that they feel less alone in their struggles and walk away with newfound support and ideas for coping.

How do race, gender, and class figure in the election? A panel of student, academic, and community experts will engage in these and other questions in preparation for the November presidential election. Additional Events in the Series: Event #1 – Know Your Rights: Activism at the University (https://events.uconn.edu/uconn-hartford/event/82532-know-your-rights-activism-at-the-university-uconn-hart)Event #3 – Post-Election Actions (https://events.uconn.edu/uconn-hartford/event/82891-post-election-actions-uconn-hartford-deans-series) During community conversations held in the spring, we heard from students, staff, and faculty that there is a need to continue to gather and learn together. In response, we have developed this new series that brings our collective experience and knowledge to bear on issues concerning the histories and roles of the university and society. Centering students and the residents of Hartford, the UConn Hartford Dean's Series on the University and Society is a series of workshops and presentations where the community meets to examine the present and imagine possible futures of the university. In the pilot semester, the Series will coordinate three events focused on activism, the student vote and the 2024 election, and post-election actions. We will collectively determine other workshops and presentations for the spring 2025 semester and beyond. This is an Honors Event. See tags below for categories. #UHLevent10863Administered and funded by the UConn Hartford Dean's Office, the Series is also connected to ongoing community conversations (every 2 weeks) to allow sustained, critical reflection, refinement, and deeper inclusion. Please RSVP so we can plan accordingly for lunch.

- 3:30 PM1hMCB Seminar Series: Dr. Andrew LombardoDr. Andrew LombardoAssistant Professor of Biochemistry University at Buffalo, Jacobs School of Medicine Host: Dr. Aoife HeaslipHow Cytoskeletal-Membrane Interactions Define Cell Shape, Polarity, and the Severity of Human Disease How can a small group of cytoskeletal polymers organize cells into the conicopia of shapes and structures needed to build a human? I'll describe what is known, and is unknown, about the regulation of human cell polarity and shape.Bio: Dr. Lombardo originally trained as a nuclear physicist in the laboratory of Charlie Freeman, Chair of Physics, at SUNY Geneseo in undergrad before switching paths to Biophysics. He received his Ph.D. at the University of Vermont in Biophysics in the laboratory of David Warshaw where he was taught cell biology by a talented postdoc in the lab, Dr. Aoife Heaslip. Lombardo's thesis focused on how the actin cytoskeleton's organization influences the forces produced by non-muscle myosins. He then went to Tony Bretscher's lab at Cornell University for a postdoc focusing on the regulators of the actin cytoskeleton responsible for producing and maintaining cell shape and polarity in human epithelial cells. Dr. Lombardo recently started his independent investigative career as an assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Lombardo's lab focuses on how human cells produce and maintain polarity using the lab's expertise in single molecule biophysics and state-of-the-art super resolution fluorescent imaging.Link to publication (https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0109082)Lombardo Website (https://ActinMyosin.com)
