- All dayAccelerate UConn: NSF I-Corps ProgramAccelerate UConn is UConn's National Science Foundation Innovation Corps (I-Corps) Program. Its mission is to propel entrepreneurial teams whose technology concepts are likely candidates for commercialization. Participating teams will receive an introduction to the most critical elements of the I-Corps Curriculum and Lean Launchpad methodology. With the support of Accelerate UConn, teams will learn first-hand about entrepreneurship and explore the transition of their ideas, devices, processes, new scientific discoveries or other intellectual activities into the marketplace.OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2025|PROPELUS COHORT Program Dates October 31st from 9:30am-3:30pm, In-person November 6th from 3:00-6:00pm, Virtual November 13th from 3:00-6:00pm, Virtual November 20th from 3:00-6:00pm, VirtualBenefits The Propelus program is four weeks in length and includes an in-person kickoff and three webinars. The program helps researchers explore the customer perspective to inform how a discovery or innovation can become the basis of a successful startup or venture. Through the program, we provide training and grants to support team-based customer research aimed at investigating the viability and societal impact of scientific and technological discoveries. Participants can expect to receive:Training: Four sessions introducing the Lean LaunchPad methodology, which focuses on customer discovery research to evaluate the potential of your idea to solve problems and provide value. Funding: Stipends of up to $1,500 are provided to each selected team and can be used to fund expenses related to customer discovery research, including conferences and marketing tools. Resources: Selected teams will receive mentorship from seasoned entrepreneurs and innovators. Teams may also utilize many other programs offered by the Hub-affiliated institutions. Follow-on opportunities: Upon completion, select teams are eligible for the National NSF I-Corps Teams program which provides an intensive 7-week training course and a $50,000 grant. Who Should Apply To apply to the Propelus program, researchers must form a team of at least two people involved with the scientific or technological discovery. The team must include:an Entrepreneurial Lead (EL) - often a postdoctoral researcher, graduate student or undergraduate a Technical Lead (TL) - usually a faculty member Please note: Non-university teams are also eligible if they have a tech- enabled innovationFunding Participants will be eligible to receive a stipend up to $1,500 to support costs incurred during customer discovery. - All dayEight Days a Week : An Illustrated Record of Rock 'n' RollEnjoy this unique exhibition of rock music memorabilia from the archive of editor, journalist, and radio disc jockey Ken Best. This personal collection features decades worth of iconic photos, album covers, posters and promotional materials that Best has amassed while writing about music for newspapers in New Jersey and Connecticut and interviewing musicians and authors on the radio at WPKN in Bridgeport and WHUS in Storrs. Highlighted will be 50 photos of major rock 'n' roll figures by Connecticut photographer Joseph Sia, including his famous image of Jimi Hendrix at Woolsey Hall in New Haven in 1968, known as "The Shadow," from Best and Sia's 1992 book,Eight Days a Week: An Illustrated Record of Rock 'n' Roll (Pomegranate Books).

- 3:00 PM1hGroup Therapy - BarbershopBarbershop The "Barbershop Group" is a therapy group for men who have had past traumatic experiences and would like to learn new ways of coping and managing the effects of that trauma. The group recognizes the need for men to develop different skills that will effectively improve how we express our emotions and build relationships in a safe space. What better place to do that than the barbershop? The Barbershop model is derived from the "Men's Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model"- (M-TREM.) The Barbershop Group uses a Psycho-educational and skills-oriented approach that is person-centered. Over the years The Barbershop has provided men with a safe, non-judgmental setting where they can speak freely and be themselves. Unfortunately, we will not be providing haircuts, but we will be providing open discussion where honest responses in group discussions are encouraged, and we will engage in several exercises that are used to introduce you to and try new coping skills. - 3:30 PM1hAtomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics SeminarProf. Philip Mannheim, Department of Physics, University of ConnecticutTime advance and probability conservation in PT-symmetric quantum mechanics While time delay is associated with the decay of states with energy eigenvalue \(E_0-i\Gamma\), probability conservation is not lost if one also includes the excitation of the decay products, states that have complex conjugate energy eigenvalue \(E_0+i\Gamma\). In consequence, because of probability conservation the standard time delay associated with decay must be accompanied by an equal and opposite time advance (negative time delay) for excitation. Thus when a photon excites an atom the spontaneous emission of a photon from the excited state must occur without any time delay at all. An effect of this form together with an associated negative time delay have recently been reported by Sinclair et al., PRX Quantum 3, 010314 (2022) and Angulo et al., arXiv:2409.03680 [quant-ph]. The presence of states with complex energy entails lack of Hermiticity, while the presence of complex conjugate pairs of energy eigenstates entails the presence of antilinear \(PT\) symmetry (\(P\) is parity, \(T\) is time reversal). Our analysis shows that the nonrelativistic square well with a real potential is not a Hermitian system but instead is a \(PT\) symmetric system, possessing \(PT\) symmetry in both the bound and scattering sectors. In the scattering sector there are complex conjugate pairs of energy eigenvalues. Despite this there is just the same number of observable resonances as in the familiar Breit-Wigner description of decays. P. D. SMART (Self-Management and Recovery Training) Recovery is an evidence-informed recovery method that supports people with substance dependencies and other addictive or problem behaviors to build and maintain motivation; cope with urges and cravings; manage thoughts, feelings and behaviors; and live a balanced life. The meetings are discussion-based and rely heavily on mutual support, recognizing there is great value in connecting with and learning from peers with similar experiences. Meetings are facilitated by students for students with facilitators being trained in the delivery of SMART Recovery. UConn Storrs offers a weekly in-person meeting on campus at Cordial Storrs House, as well as a weekly meeting that is available online only.
