- 9:00 AM1hWalk with a Doc Monthly WalkThe UConn School of Medicine Walk with a Doc (WWAD) is part of the national WWAD organization and we host a monthly walk in West Hartford, CT that is preceded by a brief talk about a common health issue by a community physician. To join our walks, simply come to Elizabeth Park Pond House in West Hartford, CT at 9am on the third Saturday of the month. We welcome people of all ages, the topics of conversation lead by the physician that month implicate patients of a wide range. We are also very welcoming of our four-legged friends, the park is very popular for dogs and we love when people bring theirs!
- 9:00 AM7hAquatic Insects of Connecticut Fly Tying WorkshopThe Connecticut State Museum of Natural History is excited to once again be collaborating with the Connecticut Fly Fisherman's Association (https://www.ctflyfish.org/)(CFFA) and the UConn Biodiversity Research Collections (https://biodiversity.uconn.edu/) (BRC) to hold our Aquatic Insects of Connecticut Fly Tying Workshop! Participants will learn to recognize the primary insect groups and how to tie patterns on hooks to simulate their behaviors and ecology while fly fishing in local rivers such as the Fenton, Farmington, and Willimantic Rivers. Participants are encouraged to use their new skills and lures with subsequent participation in the CFFA's educational programs of casting and advanced tying.Participants aged 12 – 16 must be accompanied by a chaperone. Chairs will not be provided, and audience members are encouraged to bring their own blankets and seating. Seating space will be first come, first served. In case of rain, the shows will take place in the Ballard Institute Theater at 1 Royce Circle in Downtown Storrs. The Summertime Saturday Puppet Show Series is co-sponsored by the Mansfield Downtown Partnership and supported by a generous gift from Phillip Mairorana in memory of his wife Theresa Mairorana and donations by Ballard Institute supporters to UConn Gives.
