Graduate Student Seminar
Friday, September 20, 2024 12:15–1:15 PM
- DescriptionProf. Aleksandra Kuznetsova, Department of Physics, University of ConnecticutThe Physics of Planet Formation Protoplanetary disks, rotationally supported accretion disks of gas and dust orbiting young stars, are the birthplaces of planetary systems. The physical conditions of these systems, and thus the environmental conditions of nascent planets, are set by an interplay of dynamical evolution and microphysical processes. In this talk, I will discuss current research directions in the field aimed at understanding what sets the inventory of planet building ingredients, their distribution, and evolution over time using a combination of multi-fluid hydrodynamic simulations and post-processing methods for comparison to observations.
