We are holding an information session for prospective applicants for the Undergraduate Humanities Research Fellowship (https://humanities.uconn.edu/fellowships/become-a-fellow/#collapsepanel-w5dcec3fea9c5b-0-0-13)—a year-long fellowship for UConn undergraduates pursuing innovative research in the humanities. In this session, we will go over the application process, offer tips and tricks for writing a compelling application, discuss how to find a project advisor, and answer questions.

About Jay:Jay Heit has created and produced film and television programming with top studios and production companies. He started his career as a researcher onFlashdance with Jerry Bruckheimer and continued working at Paramount onBeverly Hills Cop.His first prominent television role was producingRipley’s Believe It or Not for ABC followed by theArthur Frommer Almanacfor The Travel Channel and then was a Disney Theme Parks producer (MGM Studios and Epcot). As a Hollywood Pictures production executive, Jay oversawThe Marrying Man,Cool Runnings, and True Identity.He moved to Walt Disney Pictures as the Associate Producer ofHocus Pocus and returned to the executive ranks to oversee production on a slate of high-profile films such asOperation Dumbo Drop,The Santa Clause,Mighty Ducks III,101 Dalmatians,and Jungle to Jungle. Jay was brought on by Dreamworks to executive produce the early development ofShrek and then to 20th Century Fox to oversee the development ofBrokedown Palace. Finally, Jay has produced the greatest achievement of his film career,999: The Forgotten Girls. He is currently actively involved in the distribution of the film.Jay graduated from UConn in 1974 with a major in Anthropology and a minor in sociology. His mother, Britta Koper, is also a UConn alumna, class of 1945!

Join Honors Council and Honors for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) for a festive evening of community, creativity, and connection! Students will work in small groups to decorate gingerbread houses, play an Honors-themed Jeopardy and Kahoot, and enjoy seasonal treats while celebrating the diverse voices that make our Honors community unique. In addition to the fun and friendly competition, the event will include a short presentation on inclusivity and belonging within the Honors community, encouraging students to reflect on how diversity strengthens collaboration and shared experiences. This event provides an opportunity to unwind before finals, meet fellow Honors students from across majors and years, and engage in a meaningful discussion about what it means to create inclusive spaces—both in and outside of Honors. All materials and refreshments will be provided.
