SIGMA Seminar - What is the fractal uncertainty principle? - Aidan Backus (Brown University)

Friday, September 20, 2024 1:25–2:15 PM
  • Description
Title: What is the fractal uncertainty principle? Abstract: Let X be a fractal, and let f be a function. Can f and its Fourier transform both concentrate near X? Harmonic analysts would like to answer this question because it's interesting. Hyperbolic geometers would like to answer this question because there's a way to produce fractals from hyperbolic surfaces, and then answering the question tells us something about how geodesics behave. I would like to answer this question because I want to draw some cool pictures of fractals on the whiteboards of Monteith.
