HUSKY TRIO READY TO SHINE AT CFB ALL-STAR GAMES
STORRS, Conn. – The UConn football program has three representatives participating in a pair of college football all-star games this week in front of NFL coaches and scouts, looking to raise their draft stock heading toward this year's NFL Draft in April. UConn seniors Christian Haynes (Bowie, Md.) and Eric Watts (Sumter, S.C.) are taking part in the Reese's Senior Bowl while senior Jackson Mitchell (Ridgefield, Conn.) is at the East-West Shrine Bowl.
Mitchell has been in Dallas, Texas this week and will be suited up for the East Team, being coached by Richard Hightower who just finished his second season as the Chicago Bears special team's coordinator. He has been a coach in the NFL since 2006, working with the Houston Texans, Washington Commanders, Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, and the Bears.
The 99th edition of East-West Shrine Bowl is being held at the at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, the global headquarters of the Dallas Cowboys. The game will kick-off on Thursday night, February 1st and will be carried live on the NFL Network. Kick-off is scheduled for 8 pm EST.
Haynes and Watts are in Mobile, Alabama this week at the University of South Alabama to take part in the 75th Anniversary Senior Bowl. The duo are playing for the American Team, coached by Tennessee Titans Assistant Head Coach / Defensive Line Coach Terrell Williams. The Reese's Senior Bowl is widely regarded as the preeminent college football all-star game and last year, produced 100 total picks for the third straight year, representing 40 percent of the entire NFL draft, including 40 selected on the first two days.
This year's game will kick-off at 1 pm EST on Saturday, February 3rd at Hancock Whitney Stadium. The game will be covered live on NFL Network.
The duo mark the 16th and 17th Huskies all-time to participate in the Senior Bowl. Next up in the draft process is the NFL Combine which will take place on February 29th through March 3rd. The 2024 NFL Draft takes place on April 25th-27th.
