Huskies Head West To Face #24 Creighton on Tuesday
OMAHA, Neb. - The UConn men's basketball team (16-7, 8-4 BIG EAST) hits the road for a Tuesday night tilt at No. 24 Creighton (18-6, 11-2 BIG EAST) at the CHI Health Center Omaha. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. CT on CBS Sports Network with Andrew Catalon, Steve Lappas and Evan Washburn on the call.
The Huskies are coming off a tight setback to then-No. 12 St. John's on Friday night, while the Bluejays have won their last nine contests to soar into the top of the conference standings and return to the national polls this week. Connecticut was unranked in the AP Top 25 this week, falling from No. 19 after the 68-62 setback to now-No. 9 SJU. That snapped a streak of 52-consecutive weeks in the polls for the Huskies.
Creighton has fared better than any UConn opponent since Connecticut returned to the league for 2020-21, going 8-2 against the Huskies in that span. The Bluejays won earlier this season at Gampel Pavilion, taking a 68-63 victory on Jan. 18 that snapped a 28-game home winning streak. Last season the two sides split the regular season series, each winning on their home floor. Connecticut has never won in Omaha.
Solo Ball leads the Huskies with 15.0 points per game this season and is top-10 nationally with a 45.5 percent 3-point percentage. Alex Karaban does it all with 14.4 points. 5.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists and 1.7 blocks per game and was recently named to the Wooden Award Midseason Watch List. Liam McNeeley returned after an eight-game absence against St. John's and averaged 13.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Tarris Reed Jr. had a career-high 15 rebounds against the Red Storm and leads the squad with 7.1 a night.
The Bluejays are in the midst of a nine-game winning streak and have surged to an 11-2 start to league play. Fifth-years Ryan Kalkbrenner (19.2 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 64 blocks) and Steven Ashworth (16.9 ppg, 6.8 apg) give Creighton one of the most potent duos in the country while Jamiya Neal is averaging 11.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Following Tuesday night at Creighton, the Huskies are back on the road to visit Seton Hall on Saturday, Feb. 15 in Newark.
