McNeeley Repeats As BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

NEW YORK – UConn men's basketball freshman phenom Liam McNeeley has repeared as BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday (Feb. 24). It is the sixth weekly BIG EAST honor for McNeeley this season.

The nod comes after the 6-7 Texan averaged 14.0 points and 8.0 rebounds over a 1-1 week for Connecticut. McNeeley started the week with a game-high 20 points, including 16 in the second half, and seven rebounds in a comeback win over Villanova on Tuesday night. He followed that up by narrowly missing a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds at No. 10 St. John's. McNeeley shot 19-of-21 (90.5) from the free throw line in the two outings.

Overall this season the rookie wing leads the Huskies with 15.3 points per game and is second on the squad with 6.7 rebounds a night. McNeeley adds 2.4 assists per game and is shooting a team-best 86.1 percent from the free throw line. In five games since returning from an eight-game injury absence McNeeley is averaging 20.2 points and 9.2 rebounds.

The Huskies are back in action for a 6:30 p.m. tip with Georgetown on Wednesday at the XL Center.
