Cam Spencer Named First Team Academic All-America

AUSTIN, Texas – UConn men's basketball standout Cam Spencer (Davidsonville, Md.) has been named to the 2023-24 Academic All-America First Team, the College Sports Communicators announced on Wednesday (April 15).

Spencer excelled on and off the court in his lone season in Storrs, becoming the fourth Husky to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in program history (Wes Bialosuknia (1966-67), Randy LaVigne (1977-78) and Emeka Okafor (2002-03 and 2003-04)). At UConn he is pursuing a certificate in nonprofit management and holds a 3.50 GPA. He finished his undergraduate time with a 3.80 GPA.

Helping the Huskies to their second-straight national championship on the hardwood, Spencer ranked second on the squad this season with 14.3 points per game. He ranked among the national leaders with a 44.0 percent mark from 3-point range and a 3.63 assist/turnover ratio. Spencer added 4.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and a steam-high 1.4 steals per game while starting all 40 contests for Connecticut.

For his efforts on the court this year Spencer was named to the BIG EAST All-Conference First Team and was the Associated Press BIG EAST Newcomer of the Year. He holds the Connecticut program-record for career free throw percentage after connecting at a 91.1 percent clip from the charity stripe.

Spencer shined in the Final Four and was named to the NCAA Final Four All-Tournament team. After failing to reach the NCAA Tournament in his first four season of collegiate basketball, he left no doubt in helping the Huskies run through the NCAA Tournament by a record +140 scoring margin.

Connecticut finished the 2023-24 campaign with a 37-3 record, setting the program record for wins and scoring in a historic season.
