STORRS – The No. 2 UConn men's basketball team (3-0) concludes a four-game homestand to open the season on Tuesday night when it welcomes East Texas A&M (1-3) to Gampel Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and will air on FS1 with John Fanta and Donny Marshall on the call.
The Huskies enter Tuesday's contest after ascending to No. 2 in the national polls, riding a 3-0 start to the year and the nation's longest winning streak at 16 games. UConn is 28-1 in its last 29 games at Gampel overall and has won 30-straight home non-conference match-ups. It will mark the first all-time meeting between Connecticut and East Texas A&M and the final game for UConn before heading to the loaded 2024 Maui Invitational.
Connecticut has breezed through its first three outings of the season, winning games against Sacred Heart, New Hampshire and Le Moyne by an average of 38.7 points. Alex Karaban leads a high-powered Husky offense with 18.0 points per game on 64.3 percent shooting from the floor and a 55.0 mark from 3-point range. The All-America candidate adds 4.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 4.0 blocks per game.
Liam McNeeley is second on the squad in both scoring (14.3 ppg) and rebounding (8.0 rpg) and took home his first BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor earlier this week. Solo Ball averages 14.0 points per game and is shooting 43.8 percent from distance, while Tarris Reed Jr. adds 12.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game off the bench. As a team the Huskies lead the nation with 10.7 blocks per game and are top-15 in nearly every major offensive and defensive category.
East Texas A&M, rebranded from TAMU-Commerce earlier this month, is off to a 1-3 start with road setbacks at Iowa, South Dakota and Texas A&M before opening their home slate with a win over Southern in their last outing. Khaliq Abdul-Mateen leads the Lions with 13.5 points per game while Scooter Williams Jr. adds 12.8. ETAMU was picked 10th in the Southland Conference.
After the home game on Tuesday, UConn heads to Maui where it will first face Memphis on Monday, Nov. 27.
