This session of On Target will feature David Yamane, Professor of Sociology at Wake Forest University.Complicating Risk and Rationality in The Standard ModelThe dominant approach to defensive gun ownership in the field of gun studies is what I call "The Standard Model of Explaining the Irrationality of Defensive Gun Ownership." In this webinar, I would like to complicate and discuss how "risk" and "rationality" are understood in this model, based on my years of participant observation in American gun culture.

How should we engage students on the matter of generative AI and learning in our courses? Examples from Yee, Uttich, Main & Giltner's AI Hacks for Educators will be shared, with an opportunity to practice with different generative AI tools. Session Three will demonstrate ways to prompt ChatGPT to pose Socratic questions, tutor a student through homework, and create role play scenarios, with opportunities for hands-on practice. This session is suitable for participants with minimal experience using generative AI but will be most useful if you know how to access either Microsoft CoPilot through your UConn Microsoft 365 login, or ChatGPT (both the free "mini" and paid versions will be demonstrated). Step into a Venetian gondola with baritone Holger Falk and journey through a song repertoire beloved by generations including Mozart, Goethe and Rousseau. Falk, well-known for his contemporary opera and recital work, is joined by the wonderful baroque Cologne ensemble Nuovo Aspetto, who supplies the delightful instrumental accompaniment with interludes by Vivaldi and Tartini. Merzouga, the sound art company, adds intriguing, captured soundscapes of Venice. Varied in character —singing of longing and love, of pride and revenge, of melancholy and the serene sky — Holger presents these canzoni with the right expression for every mood and for every matter of the heart. The program's premiere performance was at Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie.
