- Sep 2612:30 PMFighting for Nature in Nineteenth-Century New York CityPublic parks were under threat in the dense and industrializing district of downtown Manhattan during the second half of the nineteenth century. Green spaces lost acres to infrastructure like a post office, a military drilling ground, and a railroad—even though working-class people who lived nearby depended on parks for fun and fresh air that they thought was crucial to their health. Mars Plater will present a story of working-class immigrants fighting back, defending their local park and demanding access to green space as their right. Visit https://operations.stamford.uconn.edu/stamford-virtual-events/ (https://operations.stamford.uconn.edu/stamford-virtual-events/) to join virtually. This is an Honors Event.
