Marissa Salvo Named the 2024 School of Pharmacy Faculty Service Award Recipient

Marissa Salvo is an Associate Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice and chair of the School of Pharmacy’s Curriculum and Curricular Assessment Committee (CCAC). She teaches within the pharmacy communications course and endocrine module and precepts pharmacy students completing their advanced pharmacy practice experience in ambulatory care, while engaging in various scholarship endeavors. Salvo is also an Associate Clinical Professor at the UConn School of Medicine and serves as a clinical pharmacist in the UConn Health Internal Medicine resident clinic. She is the preceptor for both the Ambulatory Care Longitudinal Rotation as part of the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program at UConn John Dempsey Hospital and the Academia experience as part of the PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency program at UConn Health.

“Dr. Salvo’s service shines brightest through her leadership on the CCAC,” says School of Pharmacy dean, Philip Hritcko. “Her work on this committee has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Her leadership and service efforts will benefit not only our faculty and staff but our students’ learning experiences.”

Salvo’s work doesn’t stop there. She has presented educational, professional, and research findings at both local and national levels and has authored numerous publications, including original research. Salvo has held leadership positions, including President of the Connecticut Pharmacists Association (CPA), and currently serves on their Foundation’s Board of Directors. She has been appointed to committees of national significance within the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), APhA Foundation, and American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP). In the past year, she was elected a Fellow of ACCP, received the Lambda Kappa Sigma (LKS) Vanguard Leadership Award, and was honored with the APhA- Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management Distinguished Achievement Award for Service.

“It is an honor to be nominated and selected for this award by my colleagues, all of whom are extremely dedicated to our students, school, and profession,” says Salvo. “This recognition holds a special place in my heart as I had the privilege of working closely with Dean McCarthy co-teaching the communications course early in my career. Dean McCarthy’s enthusiasm, true love for sharing the achievements of faculty, students, and staff with others, and dedication to pharmacy education and the profession were inspiring to me. I hope my dedication in all that I do continues to shine through and inspire others.”

Salvo will receive her award during commencement weekend in May.
