John Driscoll Named UConn Health Board Chair
UConn Board of Trustees Chair Daniel Toscano has named John Driscoll as Chair of the Board of Directors of UConn Health effective December 12, 2024. He succeeds Sanford “Sandy” Cloud Jr. who is departing the UConn Health Board after nearly 20 years of service, including the last 13 as chair.
For more than 25 years, Driscoll has been a leader in the healthcare industry helping to build some of the largest and most successful companies in the industry. He is the Chair of Waystar Corporation, a health care software business as well as Magnit Global. He’s also a Senior Advisor to the EQT Group.
“I’m pleased to able to appoint an individual experienced in health care and with an understanding of its critical issues,” said Toscano. “This is an important time for UConn Health and its public service mission in the State of Connecticut. On behalf of the Board of Trustees and Board of Directors, we are excited to work together as we build on the formidable strengths of our outstanding academic medical center and ensure its continued success in the future.”
“UConn Health is one of the most highly regarded academic medical centers in the country, and it provides the people of our state with access to high-quality medical services while also serving as a hub of research and development that attracts investment and growth,” said Governor Ned Lamont. “John will lead the UConn Health Board of Directors as they continue their efforts to strengthen clinical operations, become more financially sustainable, and maintain a world-class medical and dental school.”
Previously, Driscoll became Walgreens Boots Alliance President and Executive Vice President when the company acquired Hartford headquartered CareCentrix. During his tenure, CareCentrix was widely recognized for healthcare innovation by organizations like Fortune, Forbes, USA Today, and Fierce Healthcare.
“I am honored to serve as the Chair of the Board of Directors of UConn Health, a vital Connecticut institution that is home to exceptional patient care, innovation, and service to the community,” said Driscoll. “I look forward to working with its leadership, as well as that of the university and the state, and our many stakeholders as we find innovative ways to enhance its reach and positive impact on Connecticut and its people.”
“I am thrilled to have John Driscoll join UConn Health as our new Chair of the Board of Directors. John brings over three decades of health care leadership experience, and his energy, and guidance will be a true asset to UConn Health as it enters a transformative phase, building on its foundation of growth and excellence in patient care, education, and research. John also has a strong commitment to public service, UConn Health’s foundational mission, which will be a perfect match for leading the Board of Connecticut’s academic medical center,” says UConn Health’s CEO and EVP of Health Affairs, Dr. Andrew Agwunobi.
He serves on the board of Johns Hopkins Medicine and is the co-author of the PAY THE PEOPLE! Why Fair Pay is Good for Business and Great for America.
Driscoll holds a B.A. and M.B.A. from Harvard University and an MPhil from Cambridge University in England. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve.
