Call for Applications The Young Innovative Investigator Program (YIIP) is a 2-year program of The Cato T. Laurencin Institute for Regenerative Engineering which aims to develop the next generation of innovative scientists by providing academic training to individuals dedicated to pursuing careers as scientists and scholars in biological and biomedical science. The program is specifically focused on recruiting underrepresented students to contribute towards developing a sustainable pipeline to increase diversity among the pool of academic scientists. YIIP provides tools for scholars to conduct research, succeed in an academic environment, and become competitive candidates for medical school and/or graduate school. YIIP Scholars will acquire the expertise necessary to obtain a Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or M.D. Overview: YIIP is an intensive research program for college graduates comprised of graduate level coursework and mentored research in biomedical laboratories at the University of Connecticut (Farmington and Storrs campuses). It provides individualized mentorship, academic support, and career guidance. YIIP Scholars earn a stipend and qualify for health insurance coverage. In addition, some tuition expenses and fees associated with required graduate level courses are waived. Upon successful completion of year one, scholars obtain a Graduate Certificate of Research Experience in Biomedical Science. In year two, Scholars who meet the academic qualifications pursue a Master of Science in Biomedical Science involving innovative mentored research. Eligibility: The selection committee is committed to the principle of IDEAL, which stands for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Anti-racism, and Learning, as a plan to achieve justice and equity. A priority for the program is increasing (1) individuals traditionally underrepresented and marginalized in the biomedical sciences and (2) first-generation students. The Campaign School for Social Workers is a two-day workshop for anyone who wants to be more politically knowledgeable and active as a candidate, staff member, nonprofit leader, volunteer, and/or advocate for social change. Attendees learn from political social workers and national experts why we all belong in politics, how to use the NASW Code of Ethics as a guide, and how supporting a more inclusive democracy is central to social work's mission, impact, and a more just society.

Join us in this open conversation and opportunity to interact with STEM Program alumni who currently works in the U.S. to hear about their stories and suggestions on career opportunities and sills set required in different industries!

The Capture the Flag Competition will touch on a variety of cybersecurity challenges including a set of flags focusing on reverse engineering, web application security, network traffic analysis, cryptography, amongst others. The competition will require breadth of skills including some basic scripted programming capabilities as well as a facility with network monitoring and forensics tools. Competition platform provided by Cyber Skyline. Logistics and Activities Where: The event is completely online. We will be using Slack to coordinate the event and communicate with all the teams during the event. When: The event will take place on March 8, 2025 from 9:30AM to 5:30PM Eastern time. Orientation will take place at the start of the event. Actual kick off at 10AM. End of games at 5PM. Prizes: Winners will have to register with the UConn system (become a vendor) to claim their winnings. Student Requirements: Students should be prepared with laptops. The ability to execute code in a Linux environment (physical or virtual) will be helpful but not required. Prizes The prizes break down as follows: First place: $3,000 Second place: $2,500 Third place: $2,000 Fourth place: $1,500 Fifth place: $1,000 Sixth place: $500 Seventh place: $250 Eight place: $250 Ninth place: $250 Tenth place: $250

UConn's Women in Making Forum seeks to highlight and celebrate how women find success within the maker movement. We will celebrate success stories and discuss best practices to navigate obstacles through interactive discussion and empowering skill-building workshops. Attendees will leave with a renewed sense of self-reliance and confidence in their individual abilities, realizing a deeper sense of self through hands-on learning.
