UConn Names Tyson Brown Director of Football Strength and Conditioning

STORRS, Conn. - UConn head football coach Jim Mora has announced the addition of Tyson Brown to the coaching staff. Brown will join the Huskies as the Director of Football Strength & Conditioning, pending the successful completion of the university employee onboarding process.  

Brown comes to Storrs from Mississippi State University where he led the Bulldog football strength and conditioning program since the 2020 season.  He was responsible for the design and implementation of every facet of the physical development for the football team, including the areas of injury reduction, sports science tracking, the development of speed, power, strength and football specific conditioning.

Brown holds a holds a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Sioux Falls where he also played, helping lead his team to the 2006 and 2008 NAIA National Championships.  He also holds a master's from California University of Pennsylvania.

Prior to his stint at Mississippi State, he was the lead assistant under Jason Loscalzo at Washington State University. before briefly accepting the head strength and conditioning coach job at Elon University. When Loscalzo left for the NFL, Brown returned to Pullman to lead the Cougars' strength and conditioning program efforts.  Prior to his stint with the Cougars, Brown spent one year as associate director of strength and conditioning at South Florida, where he was the lead assistant strength and conditioning coach for football and director of strength and conditioning for volleyball.

He had two years as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Washington before his time at WSU. In 2008, he was an intern strength and conditioning coach at his alma mater Sioux Falls. A native of Bothell, Washington, Brown worked as a graduate assistant athletic performance coach at Baylor in 2009 and then as a strength coach intern for the NFL's Houston Texans during the 2010 season.  During his career, he has also coached in nine bowl games.

Brown is certified by CSCS and USAW. He and his wife, Kinzie, have a son, Brody, and two daughters, Bella and Briar.
