UConn to Honor 2003, ’04, ’13 and ’14 Championship Teams on Jan. 27

STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut will honor the 20-year anniversary of the 2003 and 2004 National Championship teams and the 10-year anniversary of the 2013 and 2014 National Championship teams prior to the UConn women's basketball team's game vs. Notre Dame on Saturday, Jan. 27.

At halftime, the 2013 and 2014 teams will be officially inducted in the Huskies of Honor, joining the 1995, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2004 championship teams.

The 2002-03 Huskies overcame the loss of four first round WNBA draft picks to repeat as National Champions. Led by National Player of the Year Diana Taurasi, the 2003 Huskies won the BIG EAST regular season championship and compiled a 37-1 overall record. UConn defeated Tennessee in the National Championship game, becoming the first team without a senior on the roster to win the title.

The entire 2002-03 roster returned in the following season to win the program's third straight National Championship. UConn had a 31-4 overall record in 2003-04 and again beat Tennessee in the championship game to win the Huskies' third straight and fifth overall NCAA championship.

Geno Auriemma, Chris Dailey, Jamelle Elliott and Tonya Cardoza, all coaches for the 2003 and 2004 championships, are once again on the UConn coaching staff. Morgan Valley, a player on both teams, is also currently a coach for the Huskies.

The 2012-13 season marked the beginning of the UConn's unprecedented run of four-straight national championships. The Huskies posted a 35-4 overall record. In the NCAA Tournament, UConn outscored opponents by an average of 35 points per game, defeating Louisville to take home the NCAA championship.

The 2013-14 team compiled a perfect 40-0 record and was the wire-to-wire No. 1-ranked team. The Huskies won the American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. The team rolled through the NCAA Tournament, beating opponents by an average margin of 26 points per game. UConn defeated Notre Dame in the championship game.

UConn's game vs. Notre Dame is sold out. The game will tip off at 8 p.m. on FOX.
