Storrs, CT – The UConn Division of Athletics announces its annual NCAA financial report for the fiscal year 2022-2023, highlighting a reduction in direct institutional support by 35 percent last year.

The amount of institutional support received by UConn Athletics in FY23 totaled $30.2 million, a decrease of 35% ($16.3 million) compared to the $46.5 million received in FY22. In addition to decreases in personnel costs, the 35% reduction was due, in part, to substantial increases in overall ticket sales and fundraising revenues.

UConn Athletics was able to self-generate nearly 60% of its own revenues in FY23, as compared to 44% in FY22. Fiscal year 2023 also saw 7,257 people donate to Athletics, representing a 59% increase from FY16 while total financial commitments have doubled from FY19 to FY23.  UConn has garnered $98.2 million in gifts over the last four fiscal years (FY20-FY23).

Athletics' budget reached $93.1 million in FY23, comprised of $83.1 million in direct expenditures, $2.85 million in payments of interest on bonds for stadium and AAC exit fees and $7.15 million in expenses funded through donations maintained by the UConn Foundation.

In addition, UConn Athletics continues to make a significant annual contribution to the state's economy. The total economic output stemming from athletic department operations and events in FY23 is estimated to be more than $225 million. THIS IMPRESSIVE FINANCIAL IMPACT REPRESENTS OVER A 700% RETURN ON THE DIRECT INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT.

Athletics' self-generated revenues, combined with university support, has helped fuel outstanding academic and athletic achievements as reflected in the 2022-23 UConn Huskies Annual Report.  Fiscal year 2023 was highlighted by: 67% of student-athletes earning a 3.0-or-better GPA during the spring term, a 94% Graduation Success Rate, a fifth men's basketball national championship, eight BIG EAST championships, four teams competing in NCAA Tournament action, the football team's first appearance in a bowl game since 2015 and seven teams ranked in the Top-20 during their respective seasons.
