Sixteen UConn Alums Set for 2024 WNBA Season

STORRS, Conn. – Sixteen former UConn women's basketball players are on 11 WNBA rosters as the 2024 WNBA season kicks off Tuesday.

Huskies on WNBA opening day rosters include: Tina Charles, Crystal Dangerfield (Atlanta Dream); Moriah Jefferson, Olivia Nelson-Ododa (Connecticut Sun); Lou Lopez Sénéchal (Dallas Wings); Katie Lou Samuelson (Indiana Fever); Kia Nurse, Azurá Stevens (Los Angeles Sparks); Napheesa Collier, Dorka Juhász (Minnesota Lynx); Breanna Stewart (New York Liberty); Diana Taurasi (Phoenix Mercury); Kiah Stokes (Las Vegas Aces); Nika Mühl (Seattle Storm); Stefanie Dolson and Aaliyah Edwards (Washington Mystics).

Kiah Stokes is coming off back-to-back titles with the Las Vegas Aces. Breanna Stewart was selected as the 2023 WNBA Most Valuable Player, becoming the first Husky to earn the honor twice.

Three Huskies will make their WNBA debuts this season. Aaliyah Edwards and Nika Mühl were selected in the 2024 WNBA Draft while Lou Lopez Sénéchal was taken in the 2023 Draft but missed last season to injury.

UConn has had 47 WNBA college draft selections since the league's inception in 1997, the most for a collegiate program. Nineteen former Huskies have won a total of 34 WNBA championships. Four Huskies have been named WNBA MVPs (Diana Taurasi, Tina Charles, Maya Moore, Breanna Stewart).

Four games kick off the WNBA schedule tonight. The New York Liberty face the Washington Mystics at 7 p.m. (ESPN3, League Pass), the Indiana Fever take on the Connecticut Sun at 7:30 p.m. (ESPN2, ESPN+, Disney+), the Phoenix Mercury travel to the reigning champion Las Vegas Aces at 10 p.m. (ESPN2, ESPN+, Disney+) and the Minnesota Lynx play the Seattle Storm at 10 p.m. (ESPN3, League Pass).
