Bueckers Tabbed to Lieberman Award Watch List

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – UConn women's basketball redshirt senior Paige Bueckers was selected to the watch list for the 2025 Nancy Lieberman Award, as announced by the Nasimith Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Monday.

Now in its 26th year, the Nancy Lieberman Award recognizes the top point guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. To be considered for this prestigious award, candidates must exhibit the floor leadership, playmaking, and ball-handling skills of Class of 1996 Hall-of-Famer Nancy Lieberman.

Bueckers was selected as the preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year and a preseason AP-All-American. She returns to UConn for a final season after leading the Huskies back to the NCAA Final Four in 2023-24. Bueckers was named to the 2024 WBCA, AP, USBWA and Wooden Award First Team All-America teams.

Bueckers led the Huskies with 21.9 points per game, 53 blocks and 86 steals and was one of the most efficient guards in the nation with a .530/.416/834 shooting split. The Hopkins, Minn., native totaled 854 points last season, the second most by a Husky in a single season all-time.

Five Huskies have won the Lieberman Award nine times. Bueckers became the first freshman to win the award in 2021.

Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting in each of the three rounds starting on Friday, November 1. In late January, the watch list of 20 players for the 2025 Nancy Lieberman Award will be narrowed to 10, and then in late February, to just 5. In March, the five finalists will be presented to Lieberman and the Hall of Fame's selection committees, where winners will be selected. The Selection Committees for the Nancy Lieberman Award are composed of top women's college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers.
