Huskies Fall to no.3 BU

BOSTON, Mass. -  The UConn men's hockey team fell to no.3 Boston University Friday evening by a final of 4-2. The Huskies trailed by one entering the final period but two goals by the Terriers in the third period sunk the Huskies. Hudson Schandor and Jake Percival were the lone goal scorers for the Huskies.

In his first career start and appearance in a UConn uniform, freshman Thomas Heaney stood strong making nine saves in the first period. The Terriers looked prime to open the scoring midway through the first period, but Heaney denied the breakaway shot. UConn opened the scoring late in the first period as captain Hudson Schandor blocked a shot in the defensive zone, then collected the puck at center ice and on the breakaway beat the goaltender five hole for to give UConn the 1-0 lead.

The second period was all Terriers as they scored two unanswered goals to take the lead heading into the third period. Boston University found the equalizer two minutes into the second period, as the Terriers won the faceoff in the offensive zone and then Cole Eiserman took the puck hard to the net and beat freshman netminder Tommy Heaney. The Terriers found their second goal of the night later in the second period once again following a faceoff win in the offensive zone. UConn was able to find the equalizer in the second and entered the third period trailing by one.

A five-minute major and game misconduct penalty on John Spetz hurt the Huskies in the third period as Boston University was able to take the 3-1 lead midway through the third period. The Huskies responded right away as Tabor Heaslip found Jake Percival for the shorthanded goal to once again cut the Terriers lead to one. A slashing penalty on the Huskies with six minutes remaining in the period had UConn playing 5-on-3. The Huskies killed off the major penalty and two-minute minor with allowing just one goal to keep them within striking distance. Late in the third period after a tripping penalty on Boston University and an embellishment penalty on UConn, the Terriers were able to extend the lead to 4-2. The two-goal deficit was too much for the Huskies to overcome as they fell to no.3 Boston University.
