WASHINGTON, D.C. – The UConn softball team won both their games in the doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The Huskies took game one, 4-2 and game two, 2-1 behind stellar pitching.

Hallie Siems made her 28th start of the season, picking up her 12th win on the year. She went 4.0 innings giving up one run on only two hits with five strikeouts.

Georgetown scored the game's first run in the first inning putting the Hoyas ahead 1-0.

The game was a pitcher's duel through the first four innings as both teams combined for only three hits.
UConn broke through in the fifth inning scoring three runs on four hits, giving the Huskies a 3-1 lead. Grace Jenkins got it started with a double to left center field, scoring Savannah Ring. Rosie Garcia followed Jenkins with a single to left field, scoring Lexi Hastings. Jana Sanden capped off the inning with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Grace Jenkins from third base.

Meghan O'Neil came on in relief for Siems in the fifth inning, finishing out the game in the circle for the Huskies. O'Neil was dominant through her first two innings, retiring the first five batters she faced.

UConn added an insurance run in the sixth inning as Grace Jenkins once again delivered a double to left center field, scoring Savannah Ring from second base, making it 4-1.

UConn was able to fend off a late push from Georgetown in the bottom of the seventh inning as O'Neil was able to close the door on the Hoyas late rally.

Game Two:

Payton Kinney made her 16th start of the season in game two. The senior was dominant in the circle tossing 6.0 scoreless innings only giving up two hits with six strikeouts.

Much like game one, game two was a pitcher's duel throughout with both teams combining for only one hit through the first three innings.

UConn scored the game's first run in the fourth inning as Garcia opened the scoring with a single to center field, scoring Hastings from third base.

Hope Jenkins added an insurance run in the seventh inning as she hit her seventh home run of the season, extending the lead to 2-0.

Hope Jenkins came on to close out the win for the Huskies. Georgetown continued to rally until the final out, scoring a run in the inning, but Jenkins was able to shut down the Hoyas.
