Varsity Four Places Second, Two Rowers Honored at CAA Championship
Pennsauken, N.J. - The University of Connecticut rowing team ended its season with accolades Saturday, placing second in the varsity four and taking home a pair of all-conference honors at the CAA Championship. Conditions were largely favorable with little to no wind and overcast skies. The races saw strong entrance from the Northeastern Huskies, sweeping all four Grand Finals. UConn would go on to take fourth overall, a program-best. Of the day's performance, Head Coach Jen Sanford said, "I'm proud of our entire team for the season we've had, and happy that we improved from last year's fifth place finish to fourth this year. Today's results show that we are moving in the right direction. We are trying to build a winning culture and the only way to do that is by having confidence in our abilities and trust in the team. Our Varsity Four getting second today was so exciting and showed our team that we are capable, and the future of the program is bright. I'd like to thank the 16 seniors and grad students whose collegiate rowing career has come to a close and for their impactful influence on the program." During the awards ceremony UConn's Erica Dean and Emma Paynter took home all-conference honors.
