UConn Golf Announces Team Awards
STORRS, Conn. – UConn head men's golf coach Dave Pezzino announced the team awards for the 2023-24 season this week, as voted on by players. The 2024 UConn Player of the Year is senior Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) and the 2024 Player Development Award has been given to freshman Alex Heard (Boca Raton, Fla.).
Dallahan, who was recently named to the 2024 All-BIG EAST first team, wrapped up his UConn career this spring. He led the Huskies this season playing in all 11 events to include 29 rounds of golf. He was tops among the Huskies with 13 rounds at par or better and compiled a 72.4 stroke average. He was UConn's top-finisher at four events, posting five top-20 finishes and three finishes in the top-10, his best coming at the Rutherford Invitational where he tied for second.
He shot a low round of 67 twice on the season, at the Palmas Del Mar and the Surf Club Invite, where he helped lead UConn to their third trophy of the season. He shot his low tourney total of the season, 205 (69-69-67) at the Palmas Del Mar to finish third in the field and earn the BIG EAST Player of the Week award.
Dallahan wrapped his career at UConn playing 113 rounds over 39 career events, posting a 73.6 stroke average. He recorded 16 top-20 finishes over his four years, including four top-10's and a win at the 2022 Bash at the Beach tournament. His career included 40 rounds at par or better with 13 rounds of sub-70 golf.
Heard earns this year's Player Development award, going to the Husky who improved his game the most during the course of the season. Heard played in nine of UConn's 11 events during the season and a total of 26 rounds. He posted a 73.9 stroke average on the season, fourth-best on the team. The freshman had nine rounds of golf at par or better during the season.
He played his best golf of the year during the spring, kicking off the semester going 3-0-0 to help the Huskies to a victory at the BIG EAST Match Play event. He recorded his best finish of the year at the Surf Club Invitational where he finished tied for 17th after a tournament low score of 212 (74-71-67).
