UConn Signs Transfer Aidan Mahaney

STORRS – The back-to-back national champion UConn men's basketball has announced the addition of transfer Aidan Mahaney for the 2024-25 season. Mahaney will join the Huskies after two years at Saint Mary's College and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

"Aidan is one of the better guards in college basketball, and we are very excited to welcome him to Storrs," head coach Dan Hurley said. "Aidan is coming from a terrific program at Saint Mary's that has experienced a great deal of success, and we welcome his championship background. He can really shoot it and score, but we're equally excited about what he can bring as a playmaker. We expect big things from him this year."

Mahaney comes to Storrs as an elite scoring combo guard, averaging 13.9 points per game in each of the last two seasons at Saint Mary's and accumulating 958 career points. He is a two-time First Team All-WCC selection, earning those laurels after both his freshman and sophomore campaigns. As a rookie he won the WCC Freshman of the Week honor 10 times. Mahaney is a career 37.5 percent 3-point shooter and has added 2.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in his career.

In two seasons in Moraga, Mahaney led the Gaels to back-to-back WCC regular season championships and the 2024 WCC Tournament title. Saint Mary's earned a five-seed in the NCAA Tournament in each of Mahaney's two seasons with the program.

Prior to his time at SMC, the 6-3 native of Lafayette, Calif. was a standout at Campolindo High School in Moraga, Calif. where he was an All-State selection and the Bay Area Player of the Year. Included in his time at Campolindo was a 47-2 run over two-plus years and a state title as a freshman.

Mahaney is the fifth member of UConn's incoming class for 2024-25. He joins fellow rising junior transfer Tarris Reed Jr. along with incoming freshmen Liam McNeeley, Ahmad Nowell and Isaiah Abraham.
