Cross Country Competes In Pre-Nationals Invitational Saturday Morning
MADISON, Wi.- UConn women's cross country competed in their last race before the BIG EAST Championships on Saturday morning at the Pre-Nationals Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin.
Chloe Thomas (Dundas, Ontario) continued to shine for the Huskies, finishing 5th in the competitive field with a time of 19:11, her fastest 6000M time of her collegiate career. Jenna Zydanowicz (West Hartford, Conn.) finished second for UConn, placing in the top-35 at 20:05. Caroline Towle (Bedford, Mass.) completed the 6K course in 20:53. Sophomores Malin Rahm (Schaffhausen, Switzerland) and Chloe Trudel (Amherst, NH) finished at 21:23 and 21:49, respectively.
Madison Relyea, Rachael Woodruff, and Loghan Hughes rounded out the UConn squad. Relyea (Mayfield, NY) finished at 21:50, Woodruff (Saranac, NY) at 21:54, and Hughes (Enosburg, VT) at 22:31.
Quote from Head Coach and Director of Cross Country & Track and Field Beth-Alford Sullivan:
"What a race from Chloe Thomas. 5th in the deepest pre-national race, with the top 5 all finishing under the former course record. Jenna Zydanowicz continues to represent and was outstanding today as well. The team suffered a fall about 200m into the race. Our 5th Chloe Trudel was impacted and lost contact with the field. She battled and caught back as best she could. This was frustrating but great racing from the team, nonetheless. Under the circumstances we are proud of the result, racing at the highest levels of our sport regular season helps prepare us for the final stage of the season, championship racing!"
Up Next: UConn will prepare for the BIG EAST Championship in Leesburg, Virginia on Saturday, November 2nd.
