Calista Mayer Wins BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week

STORRS, Conn.- UConn women's cross country junior Calista Mayer (Tolland, CT) was named BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon. Mayer took home this honor after winning the women's 6000m individual race at the Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup on October 11th, with a time of 22:51.8. Mayer led the Huskies to a team victory in Hopkinton, New Hampshire on Friday afternoon. UConn claimed the top 3 spots of the race, with teammates Ally McCarthy and Claire Paci finishing behind Mayer at second and third, respectively.

Quote from Director and Head Coach of Cross Country & Track and Field Beth Alford-Sullivan:

"Calista has had a tremendous break through in the sport.  She has put in the work and the miles and she is so deserving of the win and the Big East recognition."

The Huskies will next race in the Pre-Nationals Invitational on Saturday, October 19th in Madison, Wisconsin.
