Huskies Sweep Providence, Move Home Record to 10-0

STORRS, Conn.- Fresh off two strong performances last weekend, UConn volleyball wrapped up a 3 match homestand Wednesday night against Providence at the UConn Volleyball Center.

A smattering of errors back and forth got the Friars out to a early 5-4 lead.Kills from Doga Kutlu, Hanna Tylska, and Audrey Rome got the UConn offense going in the first as the Huskies went up 9-7. After Providence went on a small run of their own, Grace Maria poured another Husky ace, with the hosts snatching the slim advantage back at 12-11. More errors from the Friars and two booming Emma Werkmeister kills gave UConn some more breathing room with a 17-11 lead, pushing Providence to talk things over in the first. After Werkmeister was forced to exit the match with an injury, Dajah Williams stopped a Providence run with her first kill to keep the Huskies ahead 21-18. UConn was able to answer, as Rome and Winn ended the first frame with a block, taking the first 25-21.

The Huskies kicked off the second with a 4-0 run, boosted by a Kutlu ace. Rome contributed two more kills, and McKenna Brand dropped in the fourth UConn ace of the match to climb the lead to 8-4. Taylor Pannell stepped up in the second set, with strong plays on both ends to run up the Husky lead all the way to 15-7 going into the media timeout. The grad student from Middletown, N.Y. recorded her first ace of the season, combining with a successful challenge to keep Huskies firmly in front in the second, claiming the set 25-18.

Grace Maria made her presence felt in the third, with multiple aces and kills to jolt the Husky attack out to a 8-3 advantage.
