Volleyball Advances to Face East Carolina in NIVC Super 16

GREENVILLE, N.C.- UConn volleyball continues their NIVC run on Friday night, as they take on former American Athletic Conference foe East Carolina University in the Super 16 round.

The Huskies took care of business in their first round matchup, sweeping Mercer in straight sets on Thursday afternoon. UConn was paced by a bounced scoring attack, with Emma Werkmeister and Anna Herman leading the way with 9 kills apiece. As a team, UConn had 8 blocks in the match and hit .359 overall.

On the other side of the region, host East Carolina battled back after dropping the first set to take the next three frames against Winthrop and move on in the regional. Like UConn, the Pirates shared the love on the offensive end, with five players registering at least 10 kills. AAC First-Team All-Conference RS Fran McBride had 11 kills, with a strong supporting cast of Izzy Marinelli, Carlia Northcross, and season kill leader Ellie Pate matching McBride's mark of 11. Northcross also had 5 blocks in the first round victory.

This is the first matchup between these squads since 2019, when East Carolina swept UConn in Greenville. Overall, the Huskies are 3-7 all time against ECU, with their last win coming on November 11, 2016, in Gampel Pavilion.

How to Watch: The match will start at 6pm, streaming on ESPN+. For live in-game updates, follow UConn volleyball on Instagram, X, and Facebook at @UConnVball.
