Huskies Fall in Four at DePaul
CHICAGO, Ill. - The UConn volleyball team picked-up a first set win at DePaul on Friday night but the Blue Demons surged back to win three-straight sets to take the match in a BIG EAST match-up from McGrath-Phillips Arena.
In the first set, the Huskies used their second timeout down 20-18 and came out with a quick 4-1 run to force the Blue Demons to take a timeout. Taylor Pannell (Middletown, N.Y.) came up with a kill and a then a service ace from Isabella Suhy to go up 24-22 and force another timeout. After a service error UConn closed the first set with a Cera Powell (Pittsboro, N.C.) kill for a 25-23 win.
DePaul came out and hit .375 in the second set with 11 kills on 24 attempts against just two errors. Jill Pressly led the way with five kills in eight attempts (.625) as the Blue Demons never trailed in the second set on the way to a 25-13 win. There were six lead changes in the third set before DePaul pulled away for a 25-22 win. The Huskies made a late run in the fourth set looking to force the deciding fifth, pulling within 24-23 but DePaul's Audrey Klemp ended the rally and the match with a kill for a 3-1 conference win and season-sweep of the Huskies.
UConn, now 7-16 overall and 2-9 in the BIG EAST, got 14 kills from Emma Werkmeister (Victor, N.Y.) who added 13 digs for a double double effort. Powell finished with 12 kills and also registered a double double with 10 digs.
DePaul, now 12-10 and 5-6 in league, got 21 kills and 12 digs from Pressly in the win.
UConn will close out their road trip on Saturday night with a stop at Marquette.

The Huskies were led by Emma Werkmeister, Cera Powell, and Taylor Pannell who all pounded down double-digit kills. Sophomore Werkmeister led all scorers with 17 kills.
