Huskies Fall to Seton Hall

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's volleyball team fell in three sets to Seton Hall Friday night. The Huskies kept it close in all three sets as sophomore Emma Werkmeister and junior Taylor Pannell led the way with a combined 18 kills and 6 digs.

UConn now stands at 7-18 overall and 2-11 in BIG EAST play. With tough competition in each conference opponent, Seton Hall also showed strong offensive attacks to graze by the Huskies in each set as the Seton Hall Pirates improved to 12-12 overall and 6-7 in conference play.

The Huskies worked to stay with the Pirates offense with a UConn block that evened it at 5 in the first set. However, Seton Hall wouldn't look back as they kept the lead through the set with constant distribution in the offense. Seton Hall pushed to a 25-18 set win.

With the search to get back in the match, the Huskies kept the defense in sync to tie together three consecutive explosive scoring plays that forced the lead for the Huskies to give them the one-point lead at 19-18 in the second set. Seton Hall nailed down a couple consecutive scoring plays to also counter the UConn offense. With it tied at 25, UConn fought through the first set point, but the Pirates scored the next set point to make it 27-25.

In the third set, similar back-and-forth leads ensued. UConn jumped out to an early 6-1 lead to force the Seton Hall timeout. The Pirates wouldn't go away in the set as they answered with a 3-0 scoring run and would tie it up at 10 apiece.  With the second scoring run in the middle of the set for Seton Hall, the Pirates kept the lead at bay and edged their way to a 25-21 set score and clinched the match.

The Huskies will take on St. John's at home at 6 p.m. ET. The game can be streamed live on FloSports.
