Rome, Werkmeister and Tylska Named to All-Tournament Team
STORRS, Conn.- UConn volleyball announced their all-tournament selections for the Dog Pound Challenge Tournament that saw the Huskies win all three matches at the UConn Volleyball Center to continue their strong start to the season.
Audrey Rome was named tournament MVP, with strong efforts on both ends. The R- sophomore from Sandwich, Ill secured 20 kills and lead the team defensively after winning BIG EAST Defensive Player of the week last week.
Emma Werkmeister made the all-tournament team as well, with 43 kills on the weekend, and 8 service aces as well. The junior from Victor, N.Y. also contributed on the defensve end, with 30 digs throughout the Dog Pound Challenge as well.
Hanna Tylska came up clutch for the Huskies this weekend, earning her all-tournament honors as well. In a back and forth fifth-set match against UAlbany on Saturday, Tylska made her presence felt in the fifth set, with six kills in the set alone, eleven total on the afternoon. Tylska kept the momentum going against Dartmouth on Sunday, cracking the starting lineup and notching 16 kills.
Aaliyah Mitchell from Delaware State was selected for the all-tournament team for the Hornets, with 29 kills and 16 digs. Brooke Malek was the UAlbany selection, anchoring the Great Danes with 75 digs on the weekend. Darmouth had two selections for the team. Kauany Gutz had 49 kills and 27 digs for the Big Green, and Maddie LaFata contributed 31 kills of her own, along with 6 total blocks as well.
