Volleyball Faces St. John's in NIVC Great 8

STORRS, Conn.- UConn volleyball continues their postseason run on Thursday night against a familiar opponent. The Huskies will travel down to Queens in the Great 8 Round of the NIVC, taking on BIG EAST foe St. John's for the third time this season. UConn has had success against the Red Storm so far this season, winning both previous matches.

Most recently, the Huskies swept St. John's on November 22nd. UConn dominated the service line, pouring in 13 aces as a team, with Doga Kutlu registering a season-high 6 of her own. In the two matches against the Johnnies, Hanna Tylska had 26 kills (3.25/set). Kutlu averaged 9.98 assists per set, and Anna Herman had an average of 1.50 blocks/set. In their victory over St. John's at home in October, the Huskies were able overcome the absence of Emma Werkmeister in a five-set victory, with Tylska and Taylor Pannell chipping in 16 and 14 termination respectively. Defensively, UConn notching a season-high 17 blocks as a team.

Against East Carolina in the Super 16, UConn dropped the first set but stormed back and rattled off three sets in a row to take down the Pirates in North Carolina. Tylska led the charge on the attack with 18 kills. Defensively, the Huskies got balanced production, with three players recording double-digit digs. McKenna Brand served as the anchor, with a team-leading 16.

St. John's will host the Great 8 after tournament victories over NC A&T and Virginia. In the four-set victory over host UVA, Giorgia Walther had 21 kills, and Erin Jones had her 11th triple-double of the season, with 12 kills, 16 assists, and 13 digs.

Following their Super 16 victory, UConn tied a program-record for wins in a single season (26), the most since the 1994 BIG EAST Championship team.  This is the furthest UConn has advanced in a postseason tournament since 2021, when the Huskies made the NIVC Fab Four.
