UConn's Chloe Thomas Has Strong Showing at Canadian Olympic Trials
MONTREAL, Quebec – UConn rising senior Chloe Thomas (Dundas, Ontario) earned the chance to compete for a spot on Team Canada for the upcoming Paris Olympic Games and she did just that on Thursday night, running the 5,000 meters at the Canadian Olympic Trials.
Thomas got her chance to compete for a spot representing her home country thanks to her career-best performance at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships earlier this month. Thomas earned second team All-American status in the 5,000 meters in Eugene, Oregon when she posted a the fastest time of her career at 15:34.43 to finish 12th and break her own school record.
Thomas lined-up for the 5,000 meters on Thursday night in Montreal at the Complexe Sportif Claude-Robillard and came home with a tremendous showing, taking fifth in the field. Thomas crossed the line with a time of 15:37.28.
The Canadian Olympic trials will continue through the weekend with her classmate Emily Alty (Asburn, Ontario) competing in the discus on Saturday.
