WTEN Closes Strong Season at BIG EAST Semifinals
CAYCE, S.C. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team fell to a tough No. 1 seeded Xavier, 4-0, in Cayce at the Tennis and Fitness Center Sunday morning.
There were many accomplishments and memories to take with the Huskies after a very strong spring season. UConn finished 13-8 overall and 5-4 in the BIG EAST. The women's tennis team finished with the highest seed ever in program history in the BIG EAST Championships as the No. 4 seed along with winning against Creighton for the first time ever. Also, the Huskies had one of the most wins ever in a season in program history. Many things to be proud of on the season.
"We came up against a very tough Xavier team today," said tennis head coach Glenn Marshall. "They were a little stronger than us today and played some very good tennis all the way through their lineup. We had some opportunities in doubles but came up a little short in the end. The momentum swung their way when we started singles, but we fought on all off the courts for the entire match. Overall, though, we had an outstanding season this year, and that is what I told the kids after the match today. We accomplished many of our team goals and set program records in many areas. The team has a lot to be proud of, and we will build off those positives going into next season."
