Huskies Dominate Sacred Heart

STORRS, Conn. -  The UConn women's tennis team continued to stay hot as they swept Sacred Heart University 7-0 Wednesday afternoon. Olivia Wright led the way for the Huskies winning no.1 doubles and no.1 singles.

The Huskies doubles got UConn off to a hot start as all three doubles pairings won their matchups. Olivia Wright and Maria Constantinou won no.1 doubles 6-2 while Isabel Petri Bere and Victoria Matos and Isabella Asenov and Chloe Lomans both won no.2 and no.3 doubles by a final of 6-2.

In the singles matchups, the Huskies had a clean sweep winning each matchup en route to a 7-0 victory. Cameron Didion stepped in for the Huskies and won her first singles matchup of the season by a final of 6-1, 6-4 while Caroline Hinshaw won her singles matchups 6-2, 6-1. The other winners in the singles matchups were Olivia Wright, Maria Constantinou, Isabel Petri Bere and Victoria Matos.

"I am very pleased with our win today over a tough in-state rival," said Head Coach Glenn Marshall. "Our team was focused throughout and played tough during challenging moments. It started with our double's teams setting the tone, with solid wins on all three courts. Olivia took that momentum and won quickly at no.1 singles and then Maria and Cameron got the next two victories to seal the team win. Cameron and Caroline were in the singles line-up after missing time with an injury, so it was good to get them back on the court and each get a win. Overall, very please and happy with the nice five match win streak."
