Huskies Start 2024 Fall Season Strong at QU Invite

HAMDEN, Conn. – The UConn women's tennis team kicked off their 2024 fall campaign with a strong showing at the Quinnipiac Invitational. The Huskies finished the weekend 13-5 in single competitions and 10-1 in doubles competition.  

In the first matchup of the invitational on Friday afternoon, the Huskies faced off against Quinnipiac. UConn finished the day 4-2 in singles and 3-0 in doubles. Leading the way for the Huskies was senior Olivia Wright. In the #1 singles match Wright won 6-4 and 6-3 setting the tone for the Huskies. Sophomores Caroline Hinshaw, Victoria Matos and freshman Chloe Lomans also showcased their talent with victories in their singles matches as well.

The Huskies dominated doubles Friday afternoon finishing 4-0. Lead doubles pairing of Olivia Wright and Maria Constantinou cruised to a 6-1 victory. The other pairs that came away victorious were Isabel Petrie Bere and Caroline Hinshaw, Victoria Matos and Chloe Lomans and Cameron Didion and Isabella Asenov.

On Saturday the Huskies continued to impress. In their single matchups, the Huskies came away victorious in four and finished the double matchups 3-1 overall. Freshman Chloe Lomans stood out in her matchups, cruising to 6-3,6-3 win over her opponent.

UConn finished the final day of the Quinnipiac Invitational on a high note, going undefeated in their singles and doubles matches. Huskies went 6-0 overall in their singles and 3-0 in doubles.

Up Next: UConn will return to Storrs as they will host the UConn Invitational Sept.13-15 at the UConn Tennis Courts.
