Husky Tennis Opens 2024-25 this Weekend

STORRS, Conn.- The UConn women's tennis team kicks off their 2024 fall season in the Quinnipiac Invitational this weekend in Hamden, CT. The Huskies will face the host Bobcats, Saint Francis, and Fairfield in the hidden duel format for the tournament.

Last year, the Huskies went 13-8, and 4-3 in BIG EAST play. UConn made it to the semi-finals of the BIG EAST Tennis Championships before falling to #1 seed Xavier. The Huskies return their veteran leaders, Maria Constantinou, Isabel Petri Bere, and unanimous spring All-BIG EAST selection Olivia Wright. Each of the three seniors notched 20 singles wins last spring, with sophomore Caroline Hinshaw not far behind with 19. Petri Bere and Hinshaw went 19-9 in doubles, while Wright and Victoria Matos went 16-6.

Along with the three seniors, UConn returns junior Cameron Didion, sophomores Matos, Hinshaw and Isabella Asenov. The Huskies welcome in freshman Chloe Lomans to round out the team.

Following this weekend's matches at QU, the Huskies will host their annual UConn Invitational on campus next Friday through Saturday.  UConn will also take part in the Dartmouth Invitational on September 27-20, the Cisse Leary Invitational at Penn on October 4-6 before the ITA Regional Championship at Harvard on October 10-13.  The Huskies finish up fall tournament play at the Brown Invitational on October 18-20.

The Huskies are once again coached by Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall back for his 33rd season leading the UConn tennis program. Last season, the Huskies went 22-8 overall in the Quinnipiac Invitational. UConn will start the weekend against Quinnipiac at 11:30 A.M. on Friday, September 6th.
