Huskies Dominate Creighton To Finish Weekend 1-1

OMAHA, Nebraska- The UConn women's tennis team wrapped up a weekend trip west 1-1 overall as they fell to South Dakota Friday afternoon before bouncing back and defeating BIG EAST foe Creighton Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies opened their road trip west with a tough matchup against South Dakota. The Huskies battled hard winning two doubles matches while the third went unfinished but were unfortunately outmatched in the singles matchups as South Dakota won four of the single matchups to secure the 5-2 victory.

"This was a tough loss against a very good South Dakota team today," said Head Coach Glenn Marshall. "We didn't play great doubles today, but still found a way to get the doubles points with wins at no.1 and no.3. In singles, we had close matches on every court, and had three, three set matches. Bella won a nice match in three sets, to lead the team today, and will look forward to bouncing back against our conference rival Creighton in tomorrows match."

Following the loss Friday, the Huskies turned their attention to a BIG EAST matchup against Creighton. The Huskies bounced back in dominating fashion for a 6-1 victory over their conference rival. The Huskies no.1 doubles of Olivia Wright and Maria Constantinou continued their success winning their matchup, while Isabella Asenov and Chloe Lomans won no. 3 doubles 6-3. In singles matches the Huskies secured the victory as they won five of the six matches only falling in no.1 singles.

"This was a great win for the team today," said Head Coach Glenn Marshall. "The Team really got up for this BIG EAST battle, and it showed on the court. Doubles was the energy starter for us again, with wins at no.1 and no.3. In singles we came out with great starts on every court, winning the first set on all six courts. I'm very proud of the team, and the way we competed on the road. It's not an easy thing to do, and we really stepped up today."
