Huskies Fall to Northeastern
BOSTON, Mass. - The UConn women's swimming and diving team fell to Northeastern Saturday afternoon by a final of 151-149. In a back-and-forth meet, Northeastern was able to close the meet and win the final event to secure the win.
"Tough one to let slip away like we did," said head coach Chris Maiello. "We need to close the meet and our swims better. We did some good things, but overall, we fell just short. I am looking for the team to use this loss and fuel our training for the remainder of the season. Credit to NU for finishing the meet and earning the win. On to next week."
The Huskies got off to a strong start, as Julia Pioso took home first place in 3-meter diving, followed by first place finishes by Jessica Sheng in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.85 and Maggie Donlevy in the 100 back with a time of 56.60. UConn picked up first place finishes in six of the 16 events over the course of the meet. Despite picking up points, and having strong finishes, Northeastern was able to overcome the UConn swims and close the meet strong, finishing first in the 200 IM and 400 free relay to secure the victory.
UP NEXT: The Huskies will return to Storrs and welcome University of Rhode Island to Wolff-Zackin Natatorium for a dual meet on Saturday November 9. The meet is set to begin at 1pm.
