Huskies Set Records in Spring Home Opener
Storrs, Conn. - The University of Connecticut Swimming and Diving Team raced to a dominant victory Friday beating the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils 245 - 55.
The Huskies started the night strong, taking the top three spots in the 200y Medley Relay, the 1000y Freestyle, the 200y Freestyle, and 100y Backstroke. The momentum would not disappear as the Huskies would go on to win the next twelve races, winning all sixteen of the meets' events. Of the team's success, Coach Chris Maiello said, "Great team win tonight. It's great to be back home in front of our parents and spectators. Raucous crowd with an in-state rival coming to town. Really proud of our team and how we competed from start to finish."
The win featured many strong performances and included three new pool records. These came as Ella Epes raced a 54.46 in the 100y Butterfly (2017), Maggie Donlevy raced a 54.48 in the 100y Backstroke (2011), and Meghan Byrne raced a 2:03.73 in the 200y IM (2011). Coach Chris praised the swimmers, "...Excited about our three special swims with those pool records. Credit to those girls for working really hard, always."
