Huskies Dominate Catamounts 260-94
STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's swimming and diving team dominated in a win over the University of Vermont Catamounts at Wolff-Zackin Natatorium Saturday morning. The Huskies took home first place in 13 of the 16 events.
The Huskies led the whole way, securing the victory with a final score of 206-94. "It was a great day for our program," said head coach Chris Maiello. "The team has been training hard and as we approach finals week it is certainly a difficult time of the year for our athletes, but they responded well. We have some injury and illness to work through, but it was really a next swimmer up mentality and I'm so proud of how they stepped up today. I am super proud of Darah for earning the Zones cut, and I am super excited for Nadine, her first career win, and capped of the day with three individual wins."
Freshman Nadine Amin had her welcome to UConn moment, dominating in the water winning three individual events. "I'm so happy and proud of myself," said Nadime Amin on her performance. "This is my first win since I got to UConn, so I am very happy to get to this point."
The Huskies divers have been consistent all season long and that continued today as they took home first and second din the 3-meter diving and swept the 1-meter diving. Standing out on the boards today was Darah Ostrom, who earned the Zone cut to close out the meet.
"It's been a long time coming and I'm really excited to have another chance to compete in March," said Ostrom on the performance. "We have a lot of training ahead of us and the coaches are going to put us in a position to do really well."
With the win, the Huskies closed the first semester strong, winning their last three meets. The Huskies will head home for break before training for their next matchup, which will be take place on January 17th when they face the University of New Hampshire in Storrs.
