Softball Bounces Back at Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The UConn softball team defeated the Seton Hall Pirates, 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at Mike Sheppard Sr. Field.

Payton Kinney got the nod in game two, making her 14th start of the season for the Huskies. Kinney was dominant, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings only giving up two hits with seven strikeouts.

UConn jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Lexi Hastings came around to score from second base on a Seton Hall throwing error. Kaitlyn Kibling doubled the lead with a single to right field, scoring Lauren Benson from third base.

The Huskies manufactured another run in the fourth inning as Hastings legged out her second triple of the season, setting up Benson to bring her home on a sacrifice fly to right field, making it 3-0.

UConn added an insurance run in the sixth inning, capitalizing on a Seton Hall wild pitch, allowing Giuliana Abruscato to score from third base.

Meghan O'Neil came on in relief for Kinney in the sixth inning. She went 1.1 innings giving up two runs on three hits with a strikeout.

Seton Hall got on the board in the sixth inning on a solo home run, trimming into the Huskies lead, 4-1.

The Pirates threatened in the bottom of the seventh inning, loading the bases with only one out. Kinney came back in to close out the final two outs. The senior walked in one run to make it 4-2 but held firm to get the final two outs and seal the win for the Huskies.
