Softball falls in Series Opener at St. John's

QUEENS, N.Y. – The UConn softball team was defeated by the St. John's Red Storm, 4-1 on Friday afternoon. 

Payton Kinney made her 12th start of the season in the circle for the Huskies. She went 6.0 innings giving up four runs on four hits with eight strikeouts.   

St. John's jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning on a three run home run. Kinney settled in after the homer, retiring the next nine straight batters. 

UConn scored their lone run of the game in the sixth inning off the bat of Grace Jenkins. The sophomore hit her fifth homer of the season, a solo shot to center field making it 3-1. 

St. John's added a run to their lead off a solo home run making it 4-1. 

Up Next:

UConn will look to even the series tomorrow, Saturday, April 6 against St. John's. First pitch is set for 1:00pm.
