Huskies Shut out Fairfield
STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team defeated the Fairfield Stags, 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Burrill Family Field. UConn moves to 25-14 overall this season.

UConn jumped on Fairfield early, scoring in each of the first four innings. The Huskies scored two runs in the first inning off the bat of sophomore outfielder Kaitlyn Breslin as she hit a rocket single at the Stags pitcher, allowing Lexi Hastings to score from third base. In the same play, the Stags pitcher made an attempt to get the hustling Breslin down the line, but her throw bounced out of the first baseman's glove, allowing Grace Jenkins to score on the error.

Grace Jenkins got the inning started with another record-breaking home run. Jenkins hit her 15th home run of the season to center field, a two-run shot giving the junior catcher 138 career RBI, surpassing the all-time career program record set by Brianna Marcelino in 2022 (137 RBI, Brianna Marcelino, 2018-22).
UConn kept the inning going with back to back doubles from Rosie Garcia and Cat Petteys, manufacturing another run. Breslin capped off the big inning with another RBI single, giving the Huskies a 6-0 advantage.
UConn tacked on two more runs in the third inning, extending the lead to 8-0. Hastings singled to center field, scoring Haley Coupal from third base. Later in the inning, Garcia added another run with an infield single, scoring Hastings from third base.
UConn added an insurance run in the fourth inning as Coupal scored pinch runner Rayah Snyder from third base with a rocket single at the Stags pitcher, making it 9-0.
