Huskies Head to Creighton for Three Game Series
STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team is set for a three-game series on the road this weekend at the Creighton Bluejays. The series is set to begin on Friday, March 28 with a doubleheader beginning at 3:00pm EST, with the second game to follow after the conclusion game one, slated for 5:30pm EST. Both games will be streamed on FloSports. The series finale is scheduled for Saturday, March 29 at 5:00pm and will be televised live on FS1.
UConn is coming off a three-game sweep of Seton Hall last weekend to open the Huskies home slate this season. UConn is currently in a tie for first place in the BIG EAST standings with a 5-1 record through two conference series.
UConn's offense has gotten off to a hot start to begin conference play, scoring 47 runs through their first six games. Sophomore outfielder Kaitlyn Breslin has been the Huskies hottest hitter in BIG EAST play so far as she holds a .600 batting average and a 1.050 slugging percentage in just 20 at bats in BIG EAST play this season. Breslin was recently named BIG EAST Player of the Week and lauded to the NCAA lineup of the week for her performance against Seton Hall, where she posted a .727/1.182/.727 slash line, driving in six RBI with three extra base hits.
The UConn pitching staff has been led by graduate student Payton Kinney as the veteran pitcher has a 1.95 era in BIG EAST play, ranking second in the conference. Kinney is holding opposing batters a .188 average against her this season, as she ranks 41st nationally in hits allowed per seven innings (4.70).
Scouting Creighton (11-16, 1-5 BIG EAST)
The Creighton Bluejays are coming into the weekend on a tough stretch, losing their last seven straight games. The Bluejays are coached by Krista Wood in her third season. Creighton has a strong pitching staff this season, as the Bluejays rank towards the top of the conference as a staff in era (3.24), opposing batting average (.228), strikeouts (123), and earned runs allowed (82). Creighton returned All-BIG EAST First Teamers in senior Sydra Seville and junior Ella Dalton, and the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year in sophomore Ashten Pierson to their 2025 roster. These two programs last met in the BIG EAST Tournament a season ago, as the Bluejays ended the Huskies season in the semifinal elimination game (May 10). UConn went 3-2 overall against Creighton in 2024, and lead the all-time series 11-3.
