CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The UConn softball team defeated the Boston College Eagles, 7-0 on Tuesday night at the Harrington Athletics Village. Sydnee Koosh led the way for the Huskies, pitching her first career complete game shutout, improving UConn to 19-12 this season.
Redshirt-sophomore Sydnee Koosh made her 12th start of the season in the circle for the Huskies. Koosh was sensational, tossing her first career complete game shutout. The Canton, Ohio native picked up her sixth win of the season, as she added a career high seven strikeouts.
UConn opened the scoring in the top of the third inning with clutch two-out hitting, scoring three runs on four hits. Junior infielder Kaiea Higa continued her hot streak at the plate for the Huskies with a two-run single, extending her hitting streak to eight straight games. Freshman infielder Cat Petteys followed Higa with another two-out single, scoring Lexi Hastings from third base, giving UConn an early 3-0 advantage.
Higa extended the Huskies lead in the fourth inning as she worked a bases loaded walk, forcing pinch runner Rayah Snyder to score from third base, making it 4-0. Higa now has 12 RBI in her last five games.
Sophomore outfielder Kaitlyn Breslin continued her torrid hitting pace at the plate, hitting her seventh home run in her last six games, a solo shot to dead center field for her team leading 11th of the season, pushing the UConn lead to 5-0.
Koosh shut down the Eagles lineup, retiring 13 of 14 Eagles batters from the second inning to the sixth.
UConn's offense continued to keep their foot on the gas, scoring a run in the sixth and seventh innings, putting the game out of reach for Boston College at 7-0. Junior catcher Grace Jenkins knocked in her team leading 39th RBI of the season in the sixth with a single to center field, scoring Kaitlyn Kibling. In the seventh inning, Haley Coupal drove in her seventh RBI of the season with a single up the middle, scoring Savannah Ring from second base. Coupal now has hits in four of her last five games for the Huskies.
